Frequently
Asked Questions
I would like to send my child to St.
Gall but we do not live in the
parish boundaries. Do we need to
move to send our child to St. Gall?

No. St. Gall students live in and out of
parish boundaries. Our students come
from various areas of the cities and
suburbs to attend our school.

Why should I send my children to a
Catholic school?

It is our belief that Catholic education
provides children with the skills
necessary to succeed in the world. Our
students leave St. Gall confident and
ready for high school because they
have the necessary study skills to
succeed. A Catholic school provides
students with the religious background
not found in other schools. Students
learn church history, traditions, and
leave as practicing, responsible
Catholic young adults.

What courses will my child have at
St. Gall?

All our students experience a full-day
of courses as prescribed by the State
of Illinois and the Archdiocese of
Chicago. Our students have daily
lessons in Mathematics, Science,
English, Reading, Spelling/Vocabulary,
and Religion. In addition, students
attend weekly classes in art,
computers, music, and gym.

We speak Spanish at home. Will my
child have a hard time adjusting to
classes at St. Gall?

Many of our students are bilingual. All
correspondence with parents or
guardians is sent home in both English
and Spanish. All classes are
conducted in English. Students are
encouraged to speak English during
the school day, but are not prohibited
from speaking in another language.

We are not Catholic but would still
like to send our child to St. Gall.
Will my child need to become
Catholic?

No. St. Gall is home to a diverse
population. While many of our students
are Catholic, we do accept students
from other religions and religious
denominations. All students are
expected to pray with their class each
day and all students attend school
Mass. Each class is responsible for
planning at least one school Mass
during the course of the year.

What is the dress code at St. Gall
School?

All students wear uniforms for regular
school days. On days when students
have gym they wear the St. Gall gym
uniform. Boys wear a blue polo shirt
and dark blue slacks. Girls wear a
uniform skirt and blouse or polo shirt
depending on their class year. Girls
may also wear dark blue slacks. On
"Casual Days" students may wear
tee-shirts, jeans, slacks, "hoodies" and
gym shoes. Students are prohibited
from wearing clothing with graphic or
inappropriate logos. Students are also
prohibited from wearing fingernail
polish, makeup, and from dyeing their
hair unnatural colors. School uniforms
may be purchased at SchoolBelles,
and gym uniforms may be purchased
at Ray's T-Shirts on Pulaski.

Do students receive a school
lunch?

Students may bring a lunch from home
or may receive a hot school lunch.
Lunches must be requested in
advance to ensure that there will be
enough prepared for each student who
needs one. If you feel you qualify for a
free or reduced lunch, please contact
the school.

Many of our students show up early for
breakfast. Breakfast students also
qualify under the free or reduced lunch
policy. Students arriving for breakfast
should not arrive before 7:40 a.m.
Please inquire at the school office.

What is your tuition for the
2008-2009 school year? What is
your tuition policy?

Tuition for the 2008-2009 school year
is $3600. For more information, please
call the school office. See our
Contact
page for that information. Payment
plans are available.

Do you provide before and after
school care?

Yes! The St. Gall School Extended
Day program has been in operation for
many years and is extremely
successful. Many of our students
arrive early and stay after school for
Extended Day. Morning Care begins at
7 a.m. in our Extended Day room in the
old convent. At 7:40 the students go to
the lunchroom for breakfast. The
school day starts at 8 a.m. and
students are in class until 2:45 p.m.
Students in Extended Day receive a
snack every afternoon, as well as
homework help. Students of any age
are welcome in Extended Day. The
program closes at 5:30 p.m. each
school day. The cost per child is $3
per hour. Families are billed weekly for
extended care. For more information
or to sign up your child, please
email
Mrs. Rita Gazdziak.

This is a lot of information! How will
I remember it all?

The website is always up and running
for students and parents to reference.
At the beginning of the school year,
parents also receive a St. Gall Family
Handbook which will answer a number
of your questions.
