St. Gall School

Dear St. Gall Family Members,
I hope you are enjoying these beautiful summer days! This letter brings you some reminders as
well as the calendar for next school year and the list of school supplies for each grade. If you are
receiving this letter, on Tuesday, August 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., you may pick up a new
book bag and box of school supplies for each of your children. These will be given out only as
long as the supply lasts on a first come-first served basis. On Thursday the 19th, you will be
invited to sign up as a volunteer for various groups, as well.
A minimum of six (6) hours of volunteer time will be required by every family this year.
Please also remember that there are no required fund raisers this year, so your participation in
each fundraising event is crucial to helping maintain the expenses and level of extra programs for
St. Gall. Details of fundraisers will follow during the year. Please look carefully at the calendar for
the schedule of classes during the first days.
• CALENDAR: The calendar for 2010-2011 is enclosed. The first day of school for all students 1st
through 8th is Thursday, August 19th, with dismissal for all students at 11:30 a.m. PLEASE NOTE
NO LUNCH WILL BE SERVED THAT DAY AND THERE WILL BE NO EXTENDED DAY AFTER SCHOOL CARE
THAT DAY. Please keep the calendar for the entire year so you know the dates for vacations as
well as other days off. It also includes events that have already been scheduled for the 100th
Anniversary Celebration, fun nights, or Parent evenings. Also enclosed is a monthly version of
August 2010.
• PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN SCHEDULE: Preschool and Kindergarten students will come
to school the first two days of classes for orientation on Aug. 19th and Aug. 20th. All Kindergarten
students will attend 7:45a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on both days. No lunch will be served, but a morning
snack will be provided. Preschool parents and students will be asked to attend one morning
meeting FROM 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on either the 19th or 20th by alphabet. No lunch will be
served, but a morning snack will be provided for preschool students on the half day of
attendance. Beginning on Monday, August 23rd, all Kindergarten and Preschool students will
attend school 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Be sure you sign up for hot lunch on the day you bring your
child to school for orientation so that s/he will have a lunch on Aug. 23rd. You may also send a
lunch from home if you prefer.
•PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS: All students beginning school for the first time (preschool or
kindergarten) as well as incoming 6th grade students are required by state law to have a new
physical examination and updated immunizations. Preschoolers who were with us last year but
have now turned four also need updated immunizations. In addition, all Preschool,
Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grade students will need a dental examination. Please make these
appointments now so you can give the forms to us by the first day of classes. New Preschool or
Kindergarten students as well 6th graders will not be admitted without a completed physical
form. All students entering Kindergarten are required to have a vision exam by January of their
kindergarten year. This must be submitted to school by February 1st, 2011. Students entering
other grades from other schools must give us a copy of the most recent physical exam and shot
record by the first day of classes.
• DAILY SCHEDULE: The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 a.m.
Students who arrive after that time need to go to the office to obtain a tardy slip. We ask parent
help in getting students to school on time so that each day starts well. A policy is in place that will
penalize students after 5 tardies.
• GYM UNIFORMS: If you have not yet placed a gym uniform order, you need to do so NOW at
Ray’s T-shirts, 6134 S. Pulaski (773) 767-7779, so that your order will be ready for you to pick up
at school on Thursday, August 19th between 10:30 and 12:000 PM. Payment is due at that time.
Uniforms are REQUIRED for K-8 only but may be purchased for preschool students if you like. A
REMINDER: Students need all four pieces of the gym uniform. Gym uniforms need to be worn
properly and in good condition, as well as neat, clean and not stained. On gym days, students
will wear their gym uniforms all day in school. On days when the temperature is predicted to be
higher than 80º, students may wear gym shorts and T-shirts even if it is not a gym day.
• SCHOOL UNIFORMS: Please remember to check on the condition of your student’s uniforms.
The school uniform should be clean and in good condition and worn with pride. If you have not yet
placed a school uniform order, you need to do so through Schoolbelles. You can order online at
www.schoolbelles.com or at 7763 S. Harlem Ave. in the Bridgeview Court Plaza. The phone is 708-
598-8008 and the store is open Tuesday through Saturday. Please be advised that a small logo
has been added to the uniform shirt and blouse. Please be advised especially that if your male
student does not tuck his uniform shirt into his belted pants, you must purchase the uniform
shirts that have the banded waist bottom. Sloppiness has become an issue in the way the
young men have been wearing non-uniform shirts with very long tails.
• SCHOOL UNIFORMS – WHAT IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE: Please remember that p. 46 of the
Handbook helps students and parents remember what types of shirts, pants, sweaters,
sweatshirts, jewelry, socks, shoes and hair styles ARE NOT APPROPRIATE AS PART OF THE ST. GALL
SCHOOL UNIFORM. Please take some time to remind yourself of this, especially in relation to
HAIRCUTS. Hair that is extreme in style IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. When your son, especially, is
getting summer haircuts, please remember that Mohawks and shaved layer styles must be
grown out by August 19th because they ARE NOT APPROPRIATE SCHOOL STYLES. Boys that
enter school with a shaved or layered haircut that peaks in the center of the head or is longer at
the top than the sides will be penalized. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in the uniform
policy of the school.
• ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOKS: We have again ordered assignment notebooks for grades 3-8, so
you don’t need to buy one. They have proven to be a very valuable organizational tool.
• BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: Please mark your calendars - Back to School Night for ALL GRADES
is September 1st from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. All parents and guardians are required to attend.
Please come to meet the faculty and staff and get important information about the upcoming
year.
• BREAKFAST AND LUNCH: You will be able to sign up for the breakfast and hot lunch programs
during the first week of classes between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM in the lunchroom. Our program is
federally subsidized, and we encourage all families to apply in case you might qualify for free or
reduced price meals.
• EXTENDED DAY: We will continue to have before and after school care in our Extended Day
program. Registration for this program is $30 for the first student and $10 for each additional
child. One half of the registration will be applied as a credit to the last week of Extended Day in
June. The morning program will begin at 7:00 a.m. under the direction of Mrs. Socorro Lazcano.
She will take the children to breakfast at 7:25 a.m. and will stay with them to supervise. The cost
of the Morning Program will be $2.50. After school the children will be in the care of the Program’s
Supervisor Mrs. Rita Gazdziak and Mrs. Lazcano. The hours are 3:00 p.m. -5:30 p.m. The cost is $3
per hour for one child and $6 per hour for two or more children.
• SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: During July our office hours will be irregular. However, if you have a
question, please call and leave a message on our machine. We will pick up messages and will be
happy to call you back. For the first 2 weeks of August the office will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:
00 p.m. Beginning the week of August 16th, the office will be open 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
•ONE FINAL THING ABOUT PAYMENTS: If you need to talk to TMS about your payment, their
office hours are 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. All of these times are Central
Standard Time, the same as ours. On Sat., they are open from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. In August,
they will begin Sun. hours. There are bilingual people available at all times. Please understand
that ALL previous 2009-2010 payments and fees must be paid AT SCHOOL in order for your
child to attend the first day of school in August 2010.
Be sure your children are reading as many books as possible during the summer. Take them to
the library. Read to them. Our local libraries have many books in Spanish too. Help your bilingual
children stay strong in Spanish! Visit the sights and museums of our great city. Check out the
youth group available through the St. Gall Parish for junior high students. Check out our school

Estimados Padres/Tutores,
¡Espero que estén disfrutando de estos días de verano!
Esta carta les trae algunos recordatorios así como el calendario del próximo año escolar y la lista
de los útiles escolares para cada grado. El martes 17 de Agosto de 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Usted
podrá recibir una mochila con útiles escolares para su hija/o inscrito en nuestra escuela. Esto solo
se les dará a los que lleguen primero y hasta agotar existencia. Este mismo día usted será
invitado para registrarse como voluntario para varios grupos escolares. Así mismo cabe
mencionarle que un mínimo de seis horas por familia será obligaría iniciando este año escolar.
Recuerde que este año las recaudaciones de fondos no serán obligatorias pero si requerimos de
su aportación y es crucial su apoyo para que podamos mantener los gastos de programas
extracurriculares en San Gall. Después usted recibirá más información al respecto durante el
transcurso del año. Por favor asegúrese de revisar con atención el horario en el calendario de
clases para los primeros días.
• CALENDARIO: El calendario para el año escolar 2010-2011 se encuentra adjunto. El primer día
de clases para los estudiantes de 1ro. – 8vo. grado será el jueves 19 de agosto. El nuevo
horario para TODOS los alumnos es el siguiente: ENTRADA 7:45 a.m. SALIDA a las 11:30 a.m.
ANOTE EN SU CALENDARIO QUE ESTE DIA Favor de guardarlo por el resto del año para que usted
esté enterado de los días de vacaciones así como los días en los que no habrá clases. También
estarán incluidos los eventos que ya tienen fecha del Aniversario del Centenario de la Escuela,
noches divertidas y/o eventos para los Padres/Madres de familia. Adjunto usted recibirá un
calendario de Agosto.
• HORARIO de KINDER Y PREESCOLAR: Los alumnos de Preescolar y Kinder asistirán a clases
los dos primeros días para que reciban orientación los días 19 y 20 de agosto. Los alumnos de
Kinder asistirán de 7:45 a.m. a 11:30 a.m. los dos días antes mencionados. No se les dará
almuerzo pero si se les va a dar un aperitivo por la mañana. A los alumnos de Preescolar junto con
sus Padres/Madres se les va a pedir que asista un día por la mañana de 7:45a.m. a 11:30 a.m. ya
sea el 19 o el 20. Esto se hará basándose en el orden alfabético. De igual manera se les dará un
aperitivo durante esa mañana. Iniciando el lunes 23 de agosto, los alumnos de Kinder y Preescolar
asistirán a clases de 7:45 a.m. a 3:00 p.m. Asegúrese de registrar a sus hijos cuando venga el
día de la orientación, para el programa del Almuerzo, para que su hijo/a reciba lonche el lunes 23
de agosto. Usted puede mandarle su propio lonche.
• EXAMEN FISICO: Todo estudiante que asiste por primera vez a la escuela (preescolar o
kindergarten) así como los alumnos que van a entrar este año al 6to. grado, sin excepción, tiene
que tener sus vacunas al corriente. Los alumnos de preescolar que estuvieron con nosotros el
año pasado 09-10 pero ya cumplieron o van a cumplir los 4 años necesitan una vacuna más. Haga
su cita desde ahora ya que tiene que entregarnos las formas antes del primer día de clases.
Ningún estudiante que sea nuevo en Preescolar, Kinder o que vaya a iniciar el 6to grado, NO será
admitido si su forma física no está completa o transfer. En adición a esto los alumnos de
Preescolar, Kinder, 2do. Y 6to grado necesitan un examen dental. Los alumnos de Kinder
tienen que tener un examen de la vista antes del mes de Enero y ser entregado antes del 1ro. de
febrero 2011. Estos documentos tienen que ser entregados antes del inicio de clases ya que si no
es así no se les permitirá iniciar. Son las Leyes del Estado.
• HORARIO: La hora de entrar a la escuela es a las 7:45 a.m. La campana volverá a sonar a
las 7:50 a.m. esto implicaría que han llegado tarde. Los niños/as que lleguen tarde tienen que ir
directamente a la oficina escolar para que les den una nota por no haber llegado a tiempo.
Ayúdenos los padres para que sus hijos puedan iniciar bien el día. Hay una póliza que penaliza al
estudiante después de 5 retardos.
**Usted podrá notar que se aumento 30 minutos más de clases en nuestro currículo ya que de
esta manera podremos acomodar las pólizas académicas, los horarios y procedimientos de la
Escuela de San Gall. La hora de salida es a las 3:00 p.m.
• UNIFORMES DE GIMNASIA: Si usted aun no ha llenado una forma para ordenar el uniforme de
gimnasia, TENDRA que hacerlo ahora mismo en Ray’s T-shirts 6134 S. Pulaski (773)767-7779. Así
su orden estará lista el jueves 19 de agosto, de 10:30 – 12:00 p.m. El pago por los uniformes se
da el mismo día en que le entregamos su uniforme. Los uniformes son OBLIGATORIOS para los
grados de Kinder a 8vo grado. Solo si gusta puede usted ordenar para los alumnos de
preescolar. UN RECORDATORIO: Todos los estudiantes tienen que tener las cuatro piezas que
forman el uniforme de gimnasia. Los días que tengan gimnasia tienen que traer el uniforme de
gym puesto por todo el día. Es un requisito el traer el short de gym, aún en tiempo de frío deberán
traerlo debajo de sus pants. La regla continúa que en aquellos días en la cual la temperatura sea
más de 80 F, los estudiantes podrán usar los shorts y la camiseta de gym aunque no sea día que
tengan gimnasia.
• UNIFORME ESCOLAR: Por favor revise las condiciones del uniforme del estudiante. Debe de
estar limpio y en buenas condiciones. Deben de usarlo con orgullo. Si usted aun no ha comprado
el uniforme regular de la escuela deberá hacerlo por medio de la compañía Schoolbelles. También
lo puede ordenar por internet at www.schoolbelles.com o ir a la tienda que se encuentra en
7763 S. Harlem Ave. en Bridgeview Court Plaza. Teléfono 708-598-8008 su horario es de
martes a sábado. Observe que la blusa/camisa de la escuela tiene un logo/emblema escolar de
San Gall. Le sugiero especialmente si hijo/a no se faja la blusa/camisa del uniforme dentro
del pantalón o faldal que debería de comprar la camisa/blusa especial que tiene esta tienda
con el emblema de la escuela ya que son especiales con un fajo en la parte inferior.
Cuachalotes, desalineados ha sido un problema especialmente con los varones las camisas son
largas y no del uniforme. NO se les permitirá desfajadas.
• COMO DEBE DE USARSE/VERSE EL UNIFORME ESCOLAR: Recuerde que la pagina 46 del
Manual Escolar puede ayudar tanto a los padres como a los alumnos a recordar y ver qué tipo de
camisa/blusa, pantalón, suéter, sudadera, joyería, zapatos, calcetas/calcetines y estilos de corte
de pelo NO SON APROPIADOS COMO PARTE DEL UNIFORME ESCOLAR DE SAN GALL. Tome un poco
de su tiempo para no olvidar esta póliza especialmente en CORTE DE PELO. Cuando su hijo,
especialmente si se va a hacer un corte de pelo, recuerde que Mohawks, diseños y rasurado a
los lados. ESTOS ESTILOS NO SON APROPIADOS PARA NUESTRA ESCUELA para cuando
regresemos el 19 de agosto. Los alumnos que ingresen a la escuela con estos estilos o con
picos en medio de la cabeza o largo. Sera penalizados. Gracias anticipadas por su cooperación
en mantener al día la póliza escolar.
• LIBRETAS PARA ASIGNAR: Nuevamente hemos ordenado libretas para asignar las tareas de la
escuela para los grados de 3º--8º, así que no es necesario que usted compre una. Con ellas
hemos podido notar que son una herramienta valiosa para que los alumnos puedan organizar
mejor sus trabajos.
• JUNTA DE INICIO DE CLASES POR LA NOCHE: Favor de marcar sus calendarios, esta junta va
a ser para TODOS los grados el 1 de Septiembre de las 7:00 p.m. a las 8:30 p.m. Es requerido
que todos los padres de familia asistan. Venga para que se conozcan mutuamente con su
maestra/o y facultativos y obtenga información importante para el año que iniciaremos.
• DESAYUNO Y ALMUERZO: Podrán inscribirse en el Programa de Desayuno y Almuerzo durante
la primera semana de clases durante el siguiente horario: de las 8:00 a.m. hasta las 2:00 p.m. en
la cafetería. Nuestro programa está subsidiado por el gobierno federal, y les sugerimos a todas las
familias que apliquen en el caso que usted pueda calificar gratis o precio reducido para obtener los
alimentos.
• GUARDERIA: Continuaremos con el Programa de Guardería. La Guardería de la mañana
empezará a las 7:00 a.m. bajo la supervisión de la Sra. Socorro Lazcano. Ella llevará a los niños
al desayuno a las 7:25 a.m. y se quedará con ellos para supervisarlos. La inscripción del Programa
de Guardería siendo extracurricular es de $30 por el primer niño/a y $10 por cada hijo/a adicional.
El costo de éste programa matutino es de $2.50 por hora. La Guardería de la tarde estará
supervisada por la Supervisora del Programa la Sra. Rita Gazdziak y la Sra. Socorro Lazcano. El
horario vespertino es de 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. El costo es de $3 por hora por un solo niño y $6 la
hora por dos o más niños.
• HORAS DE OFICINA: Durante el mes de Julio las horas de oficina serán irregulares. Sin
embargo, si usted tiene cualquier pregunta favor de llamar y dejar un mensaje en nuestra
máquina. Asegúrese de esperarse a que del tono y por3favor de hablar despacio, especialmente
cuando deje un número telefónico. Estaré llamando para escuchar los mensajes, será un placer el
regresarle su llamada. Las dos primeras semanas del mes de Agosto la oficina escolar estará
abierta de 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Iniciando la semana del lunes 16 de Agosto 7:45 a.m. a 3:00 p.m.
ALGO MAS SOBRE LOS PAGOS DURANTE EL VERANO: Observe por favor el recinto con respecto
a pagos de colegiatura durante el verano. Si usted necesita hablar con TMS sobre su pago, sus
horas de oficina son 7:00 AM-9:00 P.M. lunes a viernes. Todas estas épocas son la hora estándar
central, igual que el nuestros. Los sábados, están abiertas de 10:00 AM-3:00 P.M. En agosto,
comenzarán las horas del domingo. Hay gente bilingüe disponible. Favor de siempre anotar el
nombre de la persona que le atiende y la fecha. Para que su hija/o pueda iniciar clases en agosto
TODOS los pagos de la colegiatura y recargos deberán estar pagados al día de otra manera NO
se le permitirá a su hija/o iniciar clases. Estos deberá hacerlos en la oficina escolar no puede
deber nada del 2009-2010
Cuídense, y que tengan un verano estupendo. Asegúrese de que sus hijos están leyendo
suficientes libros durante el verano. Llévelos a la biblioteca. Léales. Nuestras bibliotecas locales
tienen libros en español. Tenemos grandiosos museos en eta hermosa ciudad. Revise e infórmese
del grupo juvenil de la Parroquia de San Gall para los estudiantes de 6to grado en adelante.
¡Ayúdele a su hijo/a si es bilingüe a que reforcé su ESPAÑOL! Le deseo un estupendo y divertido
verano.
